Dancing With the Stars' Mary Kennedy opens up on terrifying incident at Dublin home

Mark Kennedy has opened up about a terrifying incident when conmen invaded her Dublin home.

The group of men came into her house and demanded an extortionate amount of money for small jobs they’d carried out.

Mary told the Irish Sun on Sunday that she had agreed a price with handymen to carry out one small job on her Knocklyon home, but soon after they entered her house she knew she’d made a big mistake.

“I had no idea who these men were - but they did take advantage of me,” said the Dancing with the Stars contestant - RSVP Live reports.

“All the time they were drinking tea and talking, they were thinking up other ‘little jobs’ that they’d do for me while they were here.

My jaw dropped when they told me how much I owed them. I thought they were joking. But they weren’t”.

The 65-year-old said while she knew she was being seriously taken advantage of, the RTE star chose to pay the outrageous fee to rid herself, and her home, of the men.

“Slowly, it began to dawn on me that I’d been had. I paid an exorbitant amount of money for bitty little jobs. I was a little bit unnerved and just wanted rid of them. It was uncomfortable and at that point you want it to be over.”

Mary, who was in her 50s at the time, said she felt silly for being ‘had’ and likes to think she would be less naive about letting strangers into her home now.

“I felt very stupid at the time. I’d like to think I am more savvy and less naive now, but you hear of people being accosted in supermarket car parks by people looking for change for trolleys. So it can happen to anybody.”
