Dancing on Ice star rushed to hospital after hitting the ice and splitting chin

Dancing on Ice pro skater Sylvain Longchambon was rushed to hospital after splitting his chin open during rehearsals. The 42-year-old professional skater was practising his moves with Coronation Street actress Mollie Gallagher, 25, when the accident happened.

In the lead up to Sunday’s Dancing On Ice show the celebrities were said to have had ‘lots of falls’, according to the ITV show's creative director, Dan Whiston. As reported by The Mirror, the programme has been troubled with injuries since the celebrities signed up for the show last year, including The Wanted's Siva Kaneswaran passing out in a freak accident.

This weekend Sylvain was reported to have been rushed to hospital after hitting his chin on the ice in rehearsals. The French skater needed to have his chin glued before being able to go back on the ice to perform with Mollie, reports The Sun.

Despite the incident, the pair were able to impress the judges, getting a score of 28.5. They skated to She Used To Be Mine from the musical Waitress, for musicals week.

The skating duo Mollie and Sylvain managed to make it to the next round, whilst Liberty X star Michelle Heaton was sent home.

Since the new series began the show has been plagued with accidents as The Wanted’s Siva Kaneswaran passed out after cracking his head on the rink during training before Christmas.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, he said: "Friday just passed, I had a serious fall, I hit the back of my head so I've been diagnosed with a mild concussion as of today. To get back on the ice it can really shake your confidence.

"But I expected this and we're just trying to stay focused and determined and I know that this is part of the whole journey."

Thankfully the singer didn't need to go to hospital and was instead seen by a medic on site.

Whilst TOWIE's Joey Essex revealed he 'almost lost a finger' while rehearsing for the show. The reality star, 32, has spent months learning how to skate for the competition. However, it ended up being more difficult than he thought it would be.

Speaking to This Morning's Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, he said: "I'm just happy to be here right now and I'm not at the competition yet. I mean, I nearly lost a finger, I nearly lost a kneecap, a shoulder."

Dancing on Ice continues on ITV on Sunday at 6.30pm
