Dancing on Ice's Sean Rice dead at 49 as pro skaters left heartbroken

As Dancing on Ice returned for a new series on Sunday night, there was sadness surrounding the show, with the news that former pro skater Sean Rice has died at the age of 49.

Frankie Poultney, a finalist on the ITV programme and wife of ex contestant David Seaman, shared the sad news on Twitter.

Frankie wrote: "Pro skaters are heartbroken today, we lost a true larger than life great - an epic skater, a husband, father, and my friend of 20 years.

"Sean Rice, 20/07/72 - 14/01/22 gone too soon, but we will Love You For A Thousand Years. All of our thoughts are with Signey and Jodeyne."

Sean appeared as professional skater on Dancing on Ice in 2011 and 2012, partnering broadcasting legend Angela Rippon and then skier Chemmy Alcott.

Along with another Dancing on Ice pro, wife Jodeyne Higgins, Sean was a two-time (1993, 1995) Canadian pairs bronze medallist and four-time (1993–1996) Canadian fours champion.

As Dancing on Ice started, one fan took to Twitter to post: "I do hope they mention the brilliant Sean Rice aka Mr Bubbles. may he rest in peace and much love to jodeyne and Signey.

A second reacted: "Very sad... Someone amazing passed away, someone with huge heart and true intention to help the world and everyone in it... RIP Sean Rice.

"Endless love and thoughts to Jodeyne and Signey," and a third posted: "So sad to hear of Sean Rice passing #SeanRice... @dancingonice #DancingOnIce... condolences to family and friends.
