Dancing on Ice's Joey Essex 'almost loses a finger' in horror training accident

Joey Essex revealed he 'almost lost a finger' while rehearsing for his upcoming stint on Dancing On Ice.

The reality star, 32, has spent months learning how to skate for the competition but it proved to be a lot more dangerous than he thought it would be.

Joey, The Wanted's Siva Kaneswaran and Nile Wilson appeared on This Morning to discuss the series - which is premiering on Sunday.

Hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary asked Joey whether he was nervous about ice skating and discovered Joey suffered from many injuries.

"I'm just happy to be here right now and I'm not at the competition yet. I mean, I nearly lost a finger, I nearly lost a kneecap, a shoulder," he revealed.

"And now I'm on the ice and I feel ready but there's room for improvement."

Dermot asked Joey to elaborate on what he meant by 'almost losing a finger'.

Joey explained: "It was actually the first day of meeting the guys. It was yeah, it was a bit of a disaster, to be honest. I went backwards over my finger and we were actually talking about losing my finger at that moment in time.

"And then I skated off. These [cameras] weren't even on the ice. The cameras weren't rolling at that point.

"It was over like, skate over and there was blood everywhere. It was awful."

Meanwhile, the star recently bragged he was a 'secret ice-skating demon' despite claiming to be a novice ahead of this weekend’s show.

The TOWIE star claimed that he was excited to be 'learning a new skill' when the new series starts on Sunday.

However, in his 2014 book Being Reem, he said he was already a whizz on the ice rink.

He gushed: “If you went to Romford ice rink on a Saturday afternoon you’d see me, little Joey Essex, whizzing about like some icy ninja.

"I can still ice-skate now – I’m one of those blokes who gets on the ice and starts skimming about backwards doing fancy shapes (to impress the ladies)."

He bragged: "Imagine if I’d gone on Dancing on Ice. I reckon I could easily pull off that Lycra."
