Dan Walker spills Strictly start date as Louise Minchin confirms last day on BBC Breakfast

Dan Walker has spilled exactly when the new series of Strictly Come Dancing is due to start.

The BBC Breakfast host is one of 15 celebrities who will be taking to the ballroom when the BBC One show returns this month.

With all the famous faces already revealed, what fans have been waiting for is the official start date.

And while BBC hasn't yet confirmed the news, Dan appears to have told viewers what they wanted to know.

Appearing on the news programme on Wednesday morning alongside co-host Louise Minchin, the pair were discussing Louise's final day on the show.

She revealed that her last day will be on September 15 after announcing her plans to leave the show in June.

BBC Breakfast viewers were 'knocked for six' when Louise, 52, announced her exit from the programme after 20 years.

After discussing when her last day would be, Louise told Dan that she'll be watching him on Strictly and will even give him a vote.

His departing co-host then asked when he starts and Dan got his phone out to put the date Louise leaves the show in his calendar.

Louise also confirmed her last day on BBC Breakfast (BBC)

And it is then when Dan let slip the Strictly news.

"I was just going to put your date in the diary," he said.

"I meet and greet the partner in a couple of days time, and actually the first show is on the 18th and then the live shows start on the 25th."

That means there's just a matter of weeks to go until the BBC One sequin-filled show will be back.

There's also set to be a few changes.

Fans of the show will be aware that Bruno Tonioli has had to drop out of the 2021 series, leading to long-standing professional Anton du Beke stepping into his place.

There are also four new professional dancers joining the line-up to replace Anton and Janette Manrara who is now hosting BBC Two's Strictly spin-off, It Takes Two.

But bosses have promised the Strictly viewers know and love will be back after a slightly shorter, restricted series due to the coronavirus pandemic last year.

All the themed weeks are back – including movie week, musicals week and Halloween week, all of which had to be shelved last year due to difficulties with hair and make-up under full PPE and Covid restrictions.

Sadly, however, the special trip to Blackpool has been axed for another year.
