MIAMI _ Maybe all Dan Straily needed to get on a roll on the mound was to catch fire at the plate.
During the Marlins' 9-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night, Straily struggled through the opening few frames before dominating the remainder of his outing. The Miami right-hander finished 6 1/3 innings by allowing just three runs and did not surrender a hit to the last 15 Diamondbacks he faced.
Straily also went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored at the plate.
But the first two innings were subpar for Straily. He served up a solo home run to Jake Lamb in the first inning. He hit Chris Owings, and Jarrod Dyson and Jeff Mathis each stroked singles in the second. Through two innings, the Diamondbacks dented him for three runs, and then Paul Goldschmidt led off the third with a single.
In the bottom of the third inning, Straily led off with a looping double over Owings in right field and he later scored on Starlin Castro's two-out RBI single. Straily drew a seven-pitch walk in the fourth inning and scored on Derek Dietrich's RBI single.
Straily entered the night with two career runs scored. He only had one career double. He'd never had a hit and a walk in the same game until Monday night.
Justin Bour cracked his 13th home run of the season with a solo homer in the first inning. Brian Anderson notched his 26th multi-hit game of the season to extend his on-base streak to a career-high 22 games.
The Marlins turned a close game into a blowout by scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The first six batters of the inning reached against Arizona right-hander Braden Shipley.
