Dan Quinn gives thoughts on Falcons rookies after Week 1

Falcons head coach Dan Quinn spoke to reporters on Monday afternoon to discuss the team’s Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Quinn touched on numerous topics, including the performance of Atlanta’s rookies in their debut.

When asked about cornerback A.J. Terrell, Quinn said he tackled well and played with physicality, while admitting the rookie got burned a few times. Watch below, as shared by ESPN’s Vaughn McClure.

Third-round pick Matt Hennessy didn’t get the start at left guard, but did play some reps in relief of James Carpenter. Don’t expect Hennessy to start in Week 2, though.

According to Quinn, Carpenter played one of his better games since joining the team. Hennessy will still get some reps at left guard, per Jason Butt of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Quinn also gave an update on defensive lineman Marlon Davidson, who sat out of Sunday’s game with a knee injury. Davidson could make his debut in the team’s Week 2 matchup with the Dallas Cowboys if he gets a full week of practice:

Rookie punter Sterling Hofrichter looked comfortable in his first NFL action. The seventh-round pick out of Syracuse averaged 50 yards per punt, with a long of 55 yards.

It wasn’t a great first showing for the Falcons rookie draft class overall, but that should have been expected. Going forward, experience will be as important as ever since the NFL cancelled the 2020 preseason.
