Dame Judi Dench says she's 'not allowed' any time off from TikTok video rehearsals

Dame Judi Dench has revealed that her grandson, Sam Williams, has put her on a fairly non-stop rehearsal schedule for TikTok videos, which they have been filming together in lockdown.

Speaking on This Morning, the 85-year-old teased that she is “not allowed any time off” from rehearsing for the short clips.

“I’m not allowed any time off, I’ve got to go on and then he says ‘No, we are not ready to film yet’ and I have to go on doing it until I get it right, quite right!” Dench said.

In one of the short videos, Dench is seen dancing alongside Williams via an iPad – the duo perform the same routine simultaneously.

In another, Dench does quizzes with Williams and responds to riddles.

Elsewhere in the interview, Dench spoke about being chosen to front the cover of British Vogue for the publication’s June issue.

“It was a lovely day,” she said of the photoshoot, adding that she is “squeamish” about having her photo taken.

“But we had the most lovely day and it was very relaxed. It was at the very beginning of the year,” she said.

“I was taken there and put in wonderful clothes and there were two wind machines – that was my favourite.”

The cover made history as Dench was the oldest ever cover star to front the magazine.

For the cover, Dench was photographed wearing a pink, floral silk organza Dolce & Gabbana trench coat, while further images inside the issue show the Skyfall star dressed in a cream silk Armani Prive tunic.

The accompanying interview took place several weeks after the shoot, when the UK was in full lockdown.

During the interview, Dench urged people to look out for those who live alone during the coronavirus outbreak.

“I am sure I feel like everyone else, such unprecedented times are quite hard to comprehend,” she explained.

“What is a good thing is that it has made people aware of the predicament of others who are completely alone. If a great deal of kindness comes out of this, then that will be a plus.”
