Damarious Randall not sure he had a concussion

Damarious Randall missed two games while under the protective care of the NFL’s concussion protocol. Yet the Browns safety doesn’t sound like he believes he ever suffered a brain injury to merit going into the protocol.

Randall had a brief press conference this week after rejoining the team at practice. It was not a warm, free-flowing conversation.

When asked when he suffered the concussion that sidelined him, Randall offered this,

“No comment. I was just placed in concussion protocol on Friday. I went that Friday before the Jets game, and I just went into protocol then.”

That led to a natural follow-up: why were you in the protocol?

“The symptoms were concussion protocol, I guess. I was placed in the protocol, and that is really all I have to say about it.”

The next question broaching the subject drew a cold response,

“Like I said, I was placed in concussion protocol. I just followed procedure.”

Randall did not appear to suffer any head trauma or helmet-to-helmet contact in the Week 1 loss to the Titans. He was not listed on the injury report leading into that game. The Browns themselves have not released any public information on Randall’s concussion.
