New York Giants defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson is a man of many talents. Not only is he one of the best young interior lineman in the NFL, he has a long list of accomplishments to his name.
One of those talents is in wrestling. Tomlinson won three career Georgia state heavyweight titles during his time at Henry County High School before graduating in 2012 and heading to the University of Alabama.
Tomlinson was never formally recognized for those accomplishments until recently, when the folks at McDonough High Athletics awarded him with a long overdue championship ring.
Tomlinson had a record of 49-0 during his senior year and 169-2 in his overall career at McDonough. He did not wrestle in college but maintains that wrestling helped him in his development as a football player.
“I feel like wrestling was probably the biggest thing that helped out just because you learn leverage and that’s a big key to defensive line-offensive line,” Tomlinson told 247 Sports in 2016. “So I feel like wrestling is probably the biggest sport that helped out.”
Tomlinson won two National Championships at Alabama (2012, 2015) and was selected 55th overall by the Giants in the 2017 NFL Draft. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team that year.
Tomlinson has played in all 48 games since joining the Giants and is entering the final year of his rookie contract. General manager Dave Gettleman has said that signing Tomlinson to an extension this season was one of the team’s priorities.
Tomlinson has recorded 128 tackles and 4.5 sacks in his three seasons with the Giants.
