Dalmarnock Bridge: Police called after magnet fishers find 'suspected firearm' in River Clyde

Police were called to the east end of Glasgow this afternoon after magnet fishers found a 'suspected firearm' in the River Clyde.

At least four police cars were spotted in attendance at the scene Dalmarnock Bridge on Dalmarnock Road after the alarm was raised around 12:20pm.

Officers say the item was removed to a safe place and that there was no threat to the public.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called around 12.20pm on Saturday, 12 December, 2020, to a report of a suspected firearm being pulled out of the river at Dalmarnock Bridge, Glasgow.

"The item was removed to a safe place. There was no threat to the public.”

It comes just a few weeks after the bridge was closed to traffic twice in one day and nearby residents evacuated after magnet fishers discovered two unexploded devices in the river.

Royal Navy bomb disposal specialists were sent in to remove both devices safely.
