Daler Kuzyaev 'targeted' by Rangers as Russian international midfielder assesses transfer options

Rangers are considering a move for former Zenit St Petersburg star Daler Kuzyaev, according to a report in Russia.

He would fit the profile of midfielder Steven Gerrard is looking to bring in to compliment the squad as they face an historic season.

Scottish fans may remember Kuzyaev from his long-range screamer for Zenit against Celtic in the last 32 of the Europa League in 2018.

And the Ibrox club have been credited with an interest in the Russian international, who went out of contract last month.

Marseille, Besiktas and Alaves have also shown interest in the 27-year-old, who has 21 caps for Russia, but Rangers are leading the hunt for him.

Zenit sporting director Alexander Medvedev said: "Daler has interest from a number of clubs in Europe and has rejected our offer of a new contract.

"We wish him luck in his career."

Kuzyaev has helped Zenit win two Russian titles in a row and also won the Russian Cup after joining from Terek Grozny three years ago.

He played in all five of Russia's World Cup games in 2018 in his homeland where they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Croatia.
