Dalbeattie Playgroup has received a cash helping hand towards improvements at its new home.
The childcare service plans to move in June to premises previously occupied by Birchvale Nursery.
The committee needs to raise £10,000 for upgrades to help it meet care inspectorate standards.
A cash appeal was launched – and last week Dalbeattie and District Lions Club presented the group with a £1,000 cheque.
Playgroup management committee member Michelle McRobert said: “The Lions donation is very welcome.
“We are excited about the prospect of a move to new property.
“And we have already got an almost full registration for start of school year 2021/22.”
Dalbeattie Playgroup’s current base in an annex at the former primary school is no longer fit for purpose.
Renovations at the new premises will include three large windows, outdoor gates and extra handwashing basins.
New flooring, garden development and equipment are also required.
Michelle added: “The Covid pandemic has not been kind to us.
“We were forced to close last March for three months and then again at beginning of January until recently.
“The reduction in services has meant a loss of £1,000 each month.
“And with no events allowing for fundraising it has been a difficult time to be making the move to a new property.”
Lions president Lynda Burns said: “Our members are very happy to be supporting the funding efforts for such an essential service.”
