Daizen Maeda and Josip Juranovic World Cup showdown as Celtic quartet reach last 16

Celtic team mates Daizen Maeda and Josip Juranovic are facing a head-to-head battle to reach the quarter-finals of the Qatar World Cup.

Maeda booked his place in the last 16 with the fantastic Japan side who came from behind to beat one of the tournament favourites Spain 2-1 last night and win their group having already beaten Germany, who are out of the competition as a result of the Samurai Blue's brilliant win.

The Parkhead man worked tirelessly as the loan striker before having to come off in the second half and the reward for Japan is a clash with Croatia on December when Maeda will come up against Juranovic. It means all four of Celtic's World Cup representatives are into the knockout phase.

Earlier in the day the Croatians - the losing finalists in Russia four years ago - booked their place with a goal-less draw against Belgium who have also suffered a sharp exit. The No2 team are out and it has cost Roberto Martinez his job as he immediately resigned.

First up in the knockout phase will be Cameron Carter-Vickers with the USA facing the Netherlands tomorrow and then Aaron Mooy and the amazing Australians take on Lionel Messi and Argentina on December 4.

Of course Mooy is joined by the Hearts contingent of Kye Rowles, Cammy Devlin and Nathaniel Atkinson plus Dundee United's Aziz Behich and St Mirren's Keanu Baccu for the blockbuster with the Copa America champions.
