Daithi O Se has become quite the makeup pro over the years, admitting he has been doing his own hair and makeup for over a decade.
The Kerryman, who presents RTE’s Today with Maura and Daithi every afternoon, said his years doing his own touch-ups on TG4 has taught him all about how to look good in front of the bright shiny studio lights.
As Covid-19 restrictions have meant the end of hair and makeup teams on set, he told The Social Media: “It takes a while but it is the new normal and it is working well, people seem to enjoy it and we are getting used to it so there is no problem with it really.”
“The hair is going a bit wild, I’m kind of patching it up and sellotaping bits and pieces together so it won’t stand up as much.
“But the makeup, I was lucky enough that I had to do my own makeup on TG4 for around 11 years, but it’s just about getting on with it, make sure you aren’t shiny and spread it all out and that’s it.”
As summer approaches, Daithi and Maura, like many of the broadcaster’s big names, are set to go off on their summer breaks.
But, with Covid-19 still taking over the world, and the need for light entertainment shows to break up all of the seriousness, Daithi said he’d happily give up his holidays to continue working on TV every day during the pandemic.
Daithi, 43, who drives to and from RTE studios in Cork each day from his base in Galway, said: “If RTE say we are going to go on I’d be delighted to stay working.
“I think people really like it and the normality of it, with the craziness that is happening.”
