Daisy Edgar Jones says she "loves" her former co-star Paul Mescal's new look

NORMAL People star Daisy Edgar Jones has revealed how she ”loves” Paul Mescal’s new moustache.

The Kildare native debuted his new look at the Cannes Film Festival.

Daisy, who earned worldwide fame, not to mention plaudits and gongs for her first lead role as Marianne in the TV take on Sally Rooney's Normal People, said her former co-star pulls it off.

She said: “Oh, I love it,” she said. “Paul can pull off anything.”

Normal People, which was released on BBC Three in 2020, focused on the on-off relationship between Irish teenagers Marianne and Connell, beginning in their school days through to their time at university.

Speaking on her close bond with her cast mates, she said: “We really do just love each other. I think because of COVID, we were all the more appreciative of each other. They are golden human beings; I feel very lucky.”

But Daisy revealed her mother, Wendy, didn’t want her to become an actress initially.

She told Elle UK: “We get a hard rap but being an only child was great. I'm very good at making friends.

“I remember going on holidays as a child, seeing kids playing in the pool and having to go up and ask, 'Can I play?' It was a good life lesson.”

At 15, her mum suggested Daisy audition for the National Youth Theatre after she'd said she wanted to be an actor.

She added: “I think she kind of hoped I wouldn't get in. Not in a mean way – just because it's a really hard job.”

She went on to speak about her career now and resilience in the industry: “As an actor, you have to be resilient.

“If I have a bad day at work, it’s judged by a lot of people, and I have to live with it forever. But I still have to make brave choices to have a shot at making something remarkable.”

The 24-year-old stars in Where The Crawdads Sing, adapted from the book by Delia Owens, as a resourceful young girl who grows up in a North Carolina marsh.

Daisy has described as “bonkers” that Taylor Swift recorded a song for her forthcoming film.

Swift wrote and recorded the song Carolina for the film and it will reportedly play over the end credits.

“If I’d told my younger self that Taylor Swift would do a song for something I’m in… bonkers.”

Where The Crawdads Sing is co-produced by Reese Witherspoon through her production company Hello Sunshine.

Daisy said of the Hollywood star: “I grew up watching Reese so it was a big moment.

“She has such an amazing eye for complicated characters and stories that are predominantly female-led.”
