PUNE: The number of daily deaths due to Covid-19 increased to seven-month high of 19 in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) on Saturday, while its day’s cases dropped to 3,026 as compared to 9,865 recoveries.
It was on June 29 last year, that the number of daily fatalities due to Covid-19 stood at 20 — higher than the Saturday’s tally. Otherwise, since then, the tally has risen up to 18 on more occasions than one, but never beyond it, data by the district health office revealed.
As many as 20,657 samples were tested in the region on Saturday. With this, the day’s positivity rate dropped to 14% in PMR. About 8,800 tests were conducted in the PMC limits, followed by 7,700 in the PCMC areas and 4,037 in the rural parts.
Health officials said daily cases have dropped by more than 1,000 in a day. “A decline has been recorded in the urban and rural areas. We are expecting this trend to continue,” a health official said. The tally of active cases also declined to 32,881 in PMR on Saturday evening.
