Dad who died in Donegal explosion to be laid to rest on Friday - as probe into cause of tragedy continues

The tragic construction worker killed in an explosion at a house in Co Donegal on Monday is to be laid to rest on Friday.

Stephen Montgomery, aged 43, was killed as he operated machinery at a house in Gaoth Dobhair. Mr Montgomery was a married father-of-one from the nearby seaside village of Dunfanaghy.

He will be laid to rest at Ballymore Graveyard following a funeral service at his home in Ballymore.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing into the cause of the explosion which led to Mr Montgomery's tragic death.

His remains were taken to Letterkenny University Hospital where a post mortem was due to be conducted.

The Health and Safety Authority also confirmed that they had sent investigators to the site.

Members of the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal also attended the scene but have since declared the scene safe.

Gardai remain at the scene as a full forensics examination into the incident continues.

Stephen was predeceased by his loving father Thomas Montgomery.

He is deeply mourned, much loved and sadly missed by his wife Doreen, cherished daughter Clara, mother Daphne, brothers Trever, Derek, Nigel, Andrew and Garvan, sisters Donna, Helen and Laura, father and mother in law William and Margaret Sayers, brothers in law, sisters in law and adored godchildren, nieces, nephews, uncles and aunts and by his extended circle of family and friends.

His remains will be reposing at his late residence from 11am today, Wednesday while his Funeral Service will take place in his family home at Ballymore on Friday at 12 noon with burial afterwards in Ballymore Graveyard.
