Dad racially abused after telling dog owners to clean up after their pets

A dad endured horrific foul-mouthed racial abuse and threats after asking dog owners to clean up after their pets.

Sheeran Anwar, from Huddersfield, said on one occasion a man threatened to knock him to the floor as he attempted to deal with the problem.

The dad-of-three has become so annoyed with dog fouling that he's started collecting photographic evidence, Examiner Live reports.

One man called him a 'P*** b****** and another threatened to knock him to the floor.

Sheeran, 40, has spoken to around 50 dog owners in the last three years, including some who allowed their dogs to make a mess outside his garden gate - and then simply walked away.

Others allowed their dogs to foul a playing field near to a local school.

He says some dog owners gave him excuses about not having dog poo bags while others were aggressive towards him.

"I saw one man from my window whose dog was doing something outside my front door. I started making a video and he started swearing.

"I followed him. He started calling me a 'P*** b******'. One man said he would knock me over if I did a video. I tell them to pick it up and that they can be fined £1,000.

"Three or four times people have said to me 'who the hell are you?' I ask them to clean the mess up and then show them the pictures.

"I tell them that I am going to send the pictures to the council."

Although he has been threatened and abused several times, Sheeran hasn't reported the incidents to West Yorkshire Police.

He says he will continue to approach dog owners and remind them of their obligations.

"What they are doing isn't nice for the environment. These people should not have a pet."

Kirklees Council's website contains information about dog fouling and includes a link for members of the public to report it.

Those who do not clean up after their dog can be issued with a fixed penalty notice or prosecuted in the magistrates court where a fine of up to £1,000 can be given.

There are around 15,000 'no dog fouling' signs fitted to lampposts adjacent to roads in Kirklees, according to the local authority.
