Dad kills own son, 3, in horror crash after racing at 100mph down M62

A uninsured father who was racing at more than 100mph on a motorway before crashing and killing his three-year-old son has been convicted of death by dangerous driving.

Israr Muhammed, 41, was travelling in a Honda Civic with his family of five on July 1, 2018, when he began racing along the M62 with another Civic driver.

At times during the chase the vehicles were just metres apart, a court heard, before Muhammed lost control and went careering over the embankment and into trees.

The crash killed Muhammed’s son while his seven year-old daughter suffered serious and life-changing facial injuries.

Their mother suffered multiple head and internal injuries and was in a coma for more than a month following the collision.

Muhammed was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing death whilst uninsured.

The defendant, from Batley, West Yorks, was today convicted by a jury at Hull Crown Court following a nine day trial.

The other driver, 29-year-old Adam Molloy from Normanton, failed to stop at the scene on the day of the collision.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Molloy too was found guilty on all counts.

Humberside Police’s Serious Collisions Unit used dashcam footage from an independent witness to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Both defendants will be sentenced on November 2.

The M62 was closed for several hours while the crash was dealt with.

A spokesman for Humberside Police said at the time: "Our Serious Collisions Unit carried out an extensive and exhaustive investigation and established that the driver (husband and father to his family) had been engaged in a ‘race’ on the motorway with another Honda Civic.

"Using dashcam footage from an independent witness the two vehicles were calculated to be travelling in excess of 100mph at less than ten meters apart.

"Muhammed was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing death while uninsured."
