As adults, it's easy to make the odd cheeky joke that will go right over a child's head - they'll never know or really understand what you meant, so what's the harm? But one parent was left cracking up recently when they noticed some rather 'adult' additions to their child's homework.
The unnamed parent took to Reddit's Casual UK forum to share a look at the 11-year-old's word search, which was meant to feature a number of different types of sandwich ingredients. However it seems there were a few unexpected additions to the activity, and one swear word definitely wasn't appropriate for the children.
The original post read: "So this is my eleven-year-old's word search homework. There’s two words in there that I’m pretty certain should not be there…"
Along with the expected words like sausage and cucumber there were a few others that fellow Reddit users spotted.
Taking to the comments under the post, some pointed out to see the curse word "s**t" hidden in the word search and it gave them a good chuckle.
Others were puzzled by the inclusion of the word "cottage" on its own and a few people spotted the abbreviation "WTF" which is often used to mean "what the f**k".
The post garnered 2,000 up votes on Reddit, with over three hundred people taking the time to comment.
One person wrote: "Grated carrot is nice with the salad bits, but cottage has thrown me. I am aware of cottage cheese but nobody just calls it cottage."
Another simply replied: "WTF."
Someone else took issue with the task altogether: "Unwanted words aside, a word search is a terrible homework."
This prompted a teacher to get involved, saying: "Teacher here. I used to give them as busy work on Fridays after a test or big project. It kept them occupied and I’d make it a contest, first five who finished got in school currency. Now the issue is anytime you find resources online like this, you need to properly vet them."
While a different user added: "Besides the inclusion of 's**t' and 'gay', I also like the fact that 'jam' is in there but hasn't been included as a word to find… on a word search based on sandwich ingredients."
