Dad arrested after car overturns with kids inside

A dad has been arrested after reportedly flipping a car he was driving.

The 42-year-old, from Southport, was suspected to have overturned his car on Crosby Road South, near to the junction with Princess Way, in Seaforth. Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene, at around 8.15pm, on Sunday, June 20.

Officers say that two children were passengers in the car at the time of the crash and were injured. The driver suffered "minor injuries" and went to hospital for treatment.

Posting about the incident on Twitter, Merseyside police 's Road Unit said: "The driver of this vehicle unbelievably drove whilst under the influence of alcohol with his two children in the rear of the vehicle before rolling it. Thankfully both children are safe and well. The driver was arrested after refusing to provide a sample of breath."

Police have since confirmed that the driver was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a sample and careless driving. They appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dash camera footage which may assist the investigation.
