D.J. Reader’s words on Joe Burrow should inspire confidence for 2020 Bengals

New Cincinnati Bengals defensive lineman D.J. Reader has come away from virtual meetings with players and coaches impressed with Joe Burrow.

Not that players or coaches being impressed with Burrow is any sort of shocking development at this point. He’s been a clear-cut leader in virtual meetings already and his grasp of the mental side of the game has left coaches impressed.

But Reader weaved in Burrow’s presence on social media, actions in meets and said he’s looking forward to helping him grow as a player during an interview with GMFB:

“In Zoom meetings and things he’s been really good. Really calm, doesn’t say too much right now…What I like about him most is that he stands his ground for what he believes in, he cares about a lot of people, you can tell he’s passionate about what he’s doing….from what I’ve seen so far he carries himself the right way. … I’m excited to get down there and see him grow, be a part of his growth. Hopefully I can put some pressure on him and make him a little bit better.”

Reader knows all about being around promising young passers after his days in Houston with Deshaun Watson. If he’s already liking what he sees from Burrow, it’s probably a good sign.

And besides the talk, the fact Reader will be pushing Burrow on the field soon is good too given the star defensive lineman’s penchant for getting after passers.
