Cyclist in hospital following York Road crash in Leeds during rush hour

A cyclist is being treated in hospital after he was involved in a collision with a silver Ford on York Road in east Leeds this morning.

The incident happened shortly after 8am, as the 36-year-old man was biking along the Cycle Superhighway towards Leeds city centre.

The collision happened opposite Gipton Approach in Osmondthorpe and saw two lanes of traffic cordoned off for several hours by officers.

Forensic collision investigation teams have been at the scene throughout the morning as they analysed the bike, although the road reopened shortly before 12.30pm.

The extent of his injuries are not yet known.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 8:09am today (7/2) police were called to a road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a silver Ford car in York Road.

"The cyclist, a 36-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment."

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact officers via 101 quoting log number 289 of February 7. Alternatively, you can speak to an officer via the force's online chat service.
