A cyclist is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car in east London.
The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital after the incident on Aylward Street in Stepney Green at about 11.15pm on Thursday. He remains in a life-threatening condition.
Parvez Rahman, 33, from Tower Hamlets, has been charged with attempted murder and failing to stop after a road incident.
He appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody.
Rahman will appear at the Old Bailey on September 4.
Distressing footage circulating on social media appears to show a car hitting a cyclist at high speed.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 11:16pm yesterday (6 August) to reports of a road traffic collision on Aylward Street, E1.
“We sent ambulance crews and an incident response officer. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority by road”.
