Cyclist dies following horror crash with lorry in Glasgow city centre

A cyclist has died after being involved in a collision with a lorry in Glasgow city centre on Friday, police have confirmed.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the Broomielaw shortly after 10am.

The cyclist was rushed to the city's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time after arriving.

Pictures from the scene show police guarding a cordon on the Clydeside thoroughfare at its junction with Oswald Street.

Officers maintained a presence for several hours while investigations took place. The road re-opened shortly before 7.30pm, around nine hours after the incident.

Police have not released any details on the identity of the cyclist.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called around 10.10am on Friday, January 27, to a report of a crash on Broomielaw, Glasgow, involving a cyclist and a HGV.

"Emergency services attended and the cyclist was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead a short time later.

"The road was closed and re-opened around 7.25pm. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."
