Curfew for man who brandished knife at Lanarkshire neighbour

A Lanarkshire man who threatened his 68-year-old neighbour with a knife faces a six-month curfew.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that Paul Davidson warned the man he would be "done in".

Davidson, 53, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour outside his home in Poplar Place, Blantyre, on August 29 last year.

He also admitted knocking the man to the ground, presenting a knife at him and possessing a bladed item in public.

Jennifer Cunningham, prosecuting, said another neighbour was in his garden about 7pm when Davidson entered the street, apparently under the influence of alcohol.

She told the court: "Davidson began to shout and swear, saying 'That b*****d shopped my girlfriend because she was staying with me'.

"A few minutes later he [the victim] got out of a taxi and as he did so the accused pushed him to the ground, shouting 'You b*****d. You f*****g shopped me'."

The court heard Davidson then produced a kitchen knife with a three-inch blade from his pocket, brandished it at the victim and said 'I'll do you, ya b*****d'

Fortunately, no further violence ensued and the police were soon on the scene.

Defence agent Andy Iles stressed that Davidson had not armed himself and waited for his neighbour to arrive.

The solicitor said: "When my client returned home he was preparing food when he heard noises outside and he went out, taking the knife that he had been using in the kitchen."

After studying a criminal justice social work report, Sheriff Martin Jones said he was prepared to impose a 12-month supervision order as a direct alternative to a prison sentence.

Davidson will be electronically tagged for six months, meaning he can't leave his house between 7pm and 7am each day.
