ALBANY, N.Y. ? New York added 10 states and removed one from its coronavirus quarantine travel advisory Tuesday, bringing the list to a total of 31 states.
People now traveling from nearly two-thirds of the country to New York, New Jersey or Connecticut, must self-isolate for two weeks and get a coronavirus test, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.
"It's only a matter of time, in my book, until you see the New York infection rate go up because people from the other states are coming to New York," the governor said during a call with reporters.
Cuomo, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont implemented the restricted travel list last month in an effort to prevent a COVID-19 resurgence in the tri-state region.
New York, once the epicenter of the outbreak in the U.S., has maintained an average 1% infection rate in recent weeks as cases soar across the country.
The 31 hot-spot states on the advisory have a rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a 10% or higher infection rate over a 7-day rolling average.
Cuomo on Monday traveled to Savannah, Georgia, to meet with Mayor Van Johnson and local officials, and offer supplies and advice on managing the pandemic. He did not quarantine upon return as he is an essential worker.
The new states added to the list are: Alaska, Delaware, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, Virginia and Washington.
The list also currently includes Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin.
Minnesota was removed from the advisory this week.
