Monday's recap: Cubs 8, Angels 8

March 29--After blowing a four-run lead, the Cubs rallied for three runs in the seventh and eighth innings before settling for an 8-8 tie with the Angels on Monday at Tempe Diablo Stadium. The Angels scored two unearned runs in the ninth. Jason Heyward showed no effects from multiple bee stings Sunday by cranking a three-run home run in the third that traveled an estimated 458 feet.

At the plate

Infielder Tommy La Stella strengthened his bid to make the opening-day roster by collecting three hits, including a single to start a five-run rally in the third and a game-tying single in the eighth.

On the mound

Clayton Richard made his case to serve as the left-handed specialist by retiring left-handed hitter Rafael Ortega on a grounder to short with a runner at third to end the sixth.

In the field

Jacob Hannemann, a third-round pick in 2013, made a sliding catch in left to rob Todd Cunningham of a hit in the eighth.

Key number

34 -- Errors committed by the Cubs in 27 games.

The quote

"I know the confidence they have in me, yet I know how many good guys we've got in our bullpen." -- Kyle Hendricks, who allowed six runs (four earned) in 52/3 innings in Monday's start.
