Cubs' Kris Bryant: Downtown high-rise 'is kind of like my safe zone'

May 19--Chicago Cubs' third baseman Kris Bryant's home in a downtown Chicago high-rise home is a little different than that of other millennials.

For instance, the centerpiece on his coffee table is a base -- he's not sure which one -- from his April Major League debut game against the San Diego Padres. In another room, next to a reasonably sized television, are two baseballs in display cases, one from his first Major League home run against the Milwaukee Brewers and the other from his first home run into Wrigley Field's bleachers, with a Post-it note identifying it as "5-10-15" (the homer actually was hit on 5-11-15).

The peek inside Bryant's home is part of partnership between Coldwell Banker Real Estate and MLB.com to show the personal lives and homes of baseball players and a few other notables.

"For me, home is kind of like my safe zone, a way to get away from the outside world and just relax and watch TV and eat some good food and hang out with friends and family," Bryant, 23, said in the video. "It's definitely a time I treasure."

In the online video, which runs just over three minutes, Bryant talks about the supportive fans he meets on Chicago's streets, the good food and steakhouses that are on practically every corner, and how, coming from Las Vegas, he was a bit unprepared for just how big Chicago is. But on a warm day, looking out his big windows or standing on a deck gazing at the view, he seems to be getting quite comfortable with it all.

"I'm liking it so far," he said. "Taking it all in and seeing all these buildings is pretty cool. It's a pretty cool place to live."

Other players expected to be included in the series are former White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy, now with the San Francisco Giants, Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz as well as model Karlie Kloss, a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
