Cuauhtémoc: Everything we know about the deadly Brooklyn Bridge ship crash

  • A Mexican navy training ship, the Cuauhtémoc, collided with the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, resulting in two crew member deaths and 19 injuries.
  • The ship, carrying 277 people, was departing for a goodwill tour when it veered off course and struck the bridge, snapping its three masts.
  • Initial reports suggest a mechanical issue caused the ship to lose power and head towards the bridge.
  • The two deceased crew members were identified as América Yamilet Sánchez and Adal Jair Marcos. Five of the injured were in critical condition.
  • While the bridge sustained no major structural damage, the incident is under investigation.
