Crystal Palace: Steve Parish vindicated as Eagles chairman praises Oliver Glasner after FA Cup win

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has paid tribute to Oliver Glasner for making “us all believe” after ending the club’s long wait for a major trophy.

The Eagles claimed their first-ever piece of silverware by beating Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final.

Eberechi Eze’s first-half goal proved to be the difference between the two Premier League sides at Wembley Stadium, though Dean Henderson produced the performance of his life to ensure an historic day for Palace.

Henderson, who was fortunate to avoid being sent-off for handling the ball outside of the area, saved a penalty from Omar Marmoush before producing a number of fine stops to preserve his clean sheet.

This victory ultimately vindicates Parish’s decision to appoint Glasner in February 2024, replacing Roy Hodgson who had stepped down.

The Austrian, who won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022, will lead Palace into Europe for the first time ever next season and his role behind the club’s historic FA Cup success has not gone under the radar.

Speaking to BBC One afterwards, a delighted Parish said: "Unbelievable. We owe them [Crystal Palace] a trophy and we got them one today.

"This for everyone that has sent me a bit of encouragement when it has been going badly, all the people that don't just have a go at you, all the people that believe - this is for them.

"I am so proud. The team, the fans, I honestly believed that we would win. That's what Oliver's [Glasner] done. He made us all believe. You could see it at the end.

"It is great for the cup, come on!"
