Jason Puncheon set to leave Crystal Palace for Huddersfield transfer

Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon was today on the verge of joining Huddersfield.

The 32-year-old has been given permission to leave Selhurst Park and is set to move to Huddersfield on a deal until the end of the season. His contract at Palace was due to expire in the summer.

Puncheon has made just three starts for Palace this season — all in the Carabao Cup — and played just 11 minutes in the Premier League under Roy Hodgson.

After growing up a stone’s throw from Selhurst Park, Puncheon joined Palace in August 2013, initially on loan from Southampton, before making a £1.75million switch in January 2014.

He has made more than 150 appearances for the Eagles and scored against Manchester United to briefly put them ahead in the 2016 FA Cup Final at Wembley (above). Puncheon suffered a serious knee injury in December 2017 and has never regained his place in the team.

Palace play Grimsby in the FA Cup tomorrow. Christian Benteke was back in training this week but he will not be involved this weekend. The forward, who has been out for three months, could return for Palace’s next Premier League game, against Watford, next Saturday.
