Crystal Palace determined not to live up to 'Robin Hood' tag at Burnley

There is a joke among Crystal Palace fans that over the past few years their club has become the Robin Hood of the Premier League.

On so many occasions the Eagles have taken scalps from the best sides before letting themselves down and dishing out points to those they should be beating with relative ease.

Palace have beaten Manchester United at Old Trafford this season and taken a point at the Emirates, before running Liverpool close last weekend.

They now will not face a traditional ‘big-six’ side until mid-January but manager Roy Hodgson has warned that his side must not let performances slip, starting at Burnley on Saturday.

“It is absolutely vital,” said Hodgson. “There is the phenomenon that teams can raise their game against the top teams and then let themselves down against teams which haven’t posed the same threat. You work very hard to prevent that [drop off].”

Hodgson will be without right-back Joel Ward (knee) until January, while Gary Cahill is a doubt.
