Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho hints at summer transfer exit as he reveals Champions League ambition

Mamadou Sakho has cast doubts over his future at Crystal Palace after suggesting he wants to play in the Champions League.

The France defender has said he will consider leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season and has given a strong indication he wants to move in search of European football.

Palace have helped Sakho get his career back on track and the Eagles would be unwilling to sell him for less than the £26million they paid Liverpool for him in the summer of 2017. Any interested club would also have to be willing to pay his £100,000-a-week wages.

Sakho’s performances for Palace have earned him a recall to the France squad and after making his international comeback this week the 28-year-old said: “I have always worked to reach the highest levels of club football and selection. My ambition remains the same, I want to be present in the biggest possible competitions. Is the Champions League in my mind? Why not?”

Sakho was due to return to Palace today after international duty and the club were set to assess the lower back injury he suffered while playing for France against Uruguay on Tuesday. It will then become clearer if he will be fit to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
