Crystal Palace boost as Wilfried Zaha targets swift return from groin injury

Wilfried Zaha hopes to hand Crystal Palace a major boost by making a swift return from the groin injury he suffered in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Leicester.

Zaha looked visibly upset as he limped off in the first half at Selhurst Park and the 30-year-old is set for a scan on Monday to discover the full extent of the problem.

But the forward was mobile enough to attend Anthony Joshua’s win over Jermaine Franklin at the O2 Arena on Saturday night and says he will be “back very soon”.

Palace have nine games left in their fight to avoid relegation and are desperate to avoid a lengthy absence for Zaha.

But Zaha, who is out of contract at the end of the season, hopes the problem is not as serious as first feared.

Zaha tweeted on Sunday: “Upset is an understatement about how my game ended last night but it’s God plan so I will be back very soon!

“On a much brighter note immensely proud of the boys and how they dug deep and got the three points we deserved. Amazing support from our beloved fans as usual!”

Palace’s win over Leicester, in Roy Hodgson’s first game back in charge, moved the Eagles four points clear of the bottom three.
