Cruz Beckham's sweet tribute to knighted dad David as family and celebrity pals enjoy Cotswold pub knees-up

Sir David Beckham celebrated his knighthood with a knees-up at his local pub, joined by sons Romeo and Cruz and celebrity friends Guy Ritchie and Gary Neville.

The former England captain, who played for his country 115 times, was knighted by the King at Windsor Castle last week for his services to football and charity.

Friends booked out a safari tent at the back of Cotswolds pub The Bull, in Charlbury, Oxfordshire, on Friday night to celebrate Sir David's new honour, The Sun reports.

The 30-strong party began the session inside the tent as guest dined on oysters and barbecued lamb with roast potatoes, and drank £55 bottles of rosé wine and Hawkstone Session lager

But the party soon spilled out to take over the entire venue.

Sir David's youngest son Cruz, 20, an aspiring singer-songwriter, performed a song he wrote specially for the occasion, which bore the line, “King Charles came to David Beckham and knighted him my man”.

Elsewhere, pubgoers belted out hits from Oasis and the Rolling Stones, and let off a great cheer as Sir David got up to dance.

Revellers were heard chanting: “We love you Sir David Beckham, we love you Sir David Beckham”.

One barhopper was quoted saying the evening was in "high spirits" and "like a New Year's Eve Party" as locals couldn't believe they were enjoying a night out in Sir David's company.

He added: “The music was blaring out and everyone was singing along.

“The pub was rammed and the more the word got out, the more people rammed in.

Sir David posed for selfies with fans before leaving in a car which took him to his home nearby.

There was no sign of Sir David's eldest son Brooklyn, 26, who is rumoured to have become estranged from his family over the past several months.

Sir David’s wife Victoria, 51, joined her husband at Windsor Castle to watch his investiture with the King last Tuesday and said: “I’ve never felt prouder than I do today.”

The Spice Girl and fashion designer praised her husband as “the same kind, humble, hardworking man I met nearly 30 years ago” as she celebrated his knighthood.

Sharing a series of pictures from the day on Instagram, she wrote: “David, from the moment I met you 28 years ago, you’ve always been so proud to represent your country.

“Whether on or off the pitch, no one loves England or respects our Royal Family more, so to see you honoured by The King today is something I’ll forever cherish.

“You’ve achieved so much, and yet you’re still the same kind, humble, hardworking man I met nearly 30 years ago, as well as the most amazing husband and father.

“I’ve never felt prouder than I do today. Sir @davidbeckham, we all love you so much xxx”.

Sir David also wrote described how meaningful the honour, for his services to sport and charity, was for him in a long statement on Instagram.

He wrote: “I can’t even begin to describe what a special day it is for me today, a boy born in East London, to receive a Knighthood from His Majesty The King.

“I am truly humbled and so grateful for this honour. I have been fortunate to represent our country and I’ve always done that with pride… I love our Royal Family and what it means to people not just in Great Britain but around the world.

“I could never have dreamed that this would happen to me… From Ridgeway Rovers to Manchester United to Preston North End to Real Madrid to LA Galaxy to AC Milan to Paris Saint Germain & of course England, all the clubs I’ve played for, with the best managers and teammates and loyal fans who have helped me get where I am today… I’m so thankful to them all…

“Playing for my country will always be the proudest moment in my career….to represent England and captain my country was my dream at seven years old.”
