A large cruise ship, which had been unable to make stops at ports because of the outbreak of the new coronavirus, entered Kobe Port on Tuesday for the first time in about eight months.
The 241-meter Asuka II cruise ship, one of the nation's largest luxury liners, departed from Yokohama Port and arrived at the port in Chuo Ward, Kobe.
Local flag-waving citizens were on hand to greet the vessel.
The company operating the liner and the Kobe municipal government, among other entities, conducted the experimental trip prior to a resumption of the November services on the assumption that some passengers would be infected with the virus.
For the time being, Kobe Port will only accept cruise ships making domestic stops.
