July 25--The 8th annual Old Car Show in La Porte, Indiana, 70 miles east of Chicago, combines the best of two old worlds with a permanent car exhibit contrasted to roving collector cars from the show-going public.
The link between the exhibit at the La Porte County Historical Society and the cars that will be showcased outside is that they all have to be from 1985 or earlier.
The 40 antique cars on display inside start with the classic 1985 time machine, a DeLorean, and stretch back to include several models manufactured in Indiana, including a Studebaker, two Auburn Cord Duesenbergs, and other cars that were part of Dr. Peter Kesling's private collection donated to the Historical Society.
Recent additions include a 1956 hot pink Ford Thunderbird convertible, said curator Susie Richter.
"We'll also be moving in a La Porte County Sheriff car, a big 1985 Plymouth Gran Fury that's 18-feet long by 7-feet wide, at the end of the show," Richter said.
During the show, attendees can vote for the Public Choice award given to the most popular car, and registrants get a goodie bag and chance to win one of six different trophies.
We have a pretty good idea which car will get the Sheriff's Choice award.
Richter expects over one hundred classic, muscle and collectible cars of all eras to vie for the public's attention.
The museum also houses over 1,000 old guns.
