People gather for coronation screening in Princes Street Gardens

CROWDS have gathered in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens to watch a live screening of the coronation.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla left Buckingham Palace earlier today and have arrived at Westminster Abbey.

The City of Edinburgh Council previously confirmed plans for the screen, which will remain in place on Sunday to broadcast the Coronation Concert from Windsor Castle.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Glasgow Cathedral will also be screening the event.

Although there are events planned across Scotland to celebrate the coronation, campaign group Our Republic has organised a rally to take place at Calton Hill in Edinburgh from 3pm.

There will be a range of speakers at the event including Scottish Greens co-leader Lorna Slater as well as MSP Maggie Chapman.

SNP MP Tommy Sheppard will also be among those to address the rally.

It comes after a group of anti-monarchy protesters were arrested in London this morning with the Met Police confirming a major operating was underway across the city.

Among those arrested was head of the UK’s leading anti-monarchy group Republic Graham Smith.

Human Rights Watch issued a statement saying the scenes were akin to something “you would expect to see in Moscow not London”.

Images showed the Met Police removing placards that said “Not My King” on them.

Elsewhere, Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf arrived at the coronation with his wife Nadia El-Nakla.
