Crowd gathers on Wexford street as garda is injured in horror armed stand-off

A man in his 40s has been arrested following an armed stand-off in Co Wexford on Sunday.

Gardai were called to the scene of a residence on Main Street, Castlebridge, at around 4.35pm after receiving reports of a man wielding a machete type knife shouting at passers-bys.

The man is believed to have become increasingly irate and locked himself inside the building as a number of garda units rushed to the scene.

A man in his 40s was later arrested at the scene and has since been charged.

He appeared before Wexford District on Monday morning of Monday.
