Cross Gates Leeds police statement as man on fire rescued from burning car

Police have released a statement after a man was burned in a car fire in the Cross Gates area of Leeds.

Firefighters and police were called to Sandleas Way at around 6pm, to a report of a man in a car fire.

The man had been reported missing with concerns for his welfare.

He suffered burn injuries that were not life-threatening and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Images from the scene showed the car completely destroyed by the fire as firefighters doused the wreckage with jets.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "The incident was in relation to a man who had been reported missing earlier with concerns for his welfare.

"He was taken to hospital with burn injuries that were not considered life-threatening. There are no suspicious circumstances."
