Croke Park pitch labelled a 'disgrace' as fans fume on All-Ireland clubs final day

A number of GAA fans have blasted the condition of the Croke Park pitch for Sunday's All-Ireland club finals.

Ballyhale Shamrocks defeated Dunloy in the hurling decider before Glen and Kilmacud Crokes clashed in the football final later in the day.

But it was the state of the playing surface that had many people talking on social media, with some describing it as the worst condition they had ever seen it in.

Former Offaly hurler Brian Whelahan tweeted: "GAA really showing what they think of the club player’s on their biggest day. Pitch is nothing short of a disgrace."

One fan wrote: "Croke Park pitch looks poor, not a good look on All Ireland club final day."

Another said: "Pitch at Croke Park in very bad condition."

Someone else commented: "That pitch in Croke Park is some disgrace for an All-Ireland Club day."

"Croke Park pitch looks in rag order … Don’t think I’ve ever seen it as bad," read another post.

One other fan posted: "Have never seen the Croke Park pitch in as poor as condition. The joke that was playing Leinster club finals and semi finals has backfired."

A number of matches have been played at GAA Headquarters in recent weeks, but it is the number of concerts held at the venue that some people believe has contributed to the pitch's poor condition.

One person wrote: "The Croke Park surface was brilliant last year and got destroyed by the Garth Brooks concerts. The replacement turf looks very poor."

Another fan tweeted: "Jesus the pitch in Croke Park is in bits, has not been the same since it got re layed after the last concert."
