Cristiano Ronaldo sends message to Raphael Varane over Manchester United transfer

Manchester United and Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo has given his seal of approval to Raphael Varane's transfer after it was officially completed on Saturday.

The World Cup winner was officially presented on the Old Trafford pitch ahead of the 5-1 win over Leeds on the opening day of the season, after his £41m move was finally completed after some delays meant the deal wasn't done in time for him to play in the game.

After being cheered onto the pitch by a capacity crowd, Varane shook hands and exchanged words on the touchline with his boyhood idol Rio Ferdinand, who posted the meeting on his Instagram account following the game.

Ronaldo, who played with Ferdinand at United before playing with Varane at Real Madrid, commented the word 'grande' on the post which translates to 'great'.

Varane will join training for the first time this week and will look to earn himself his debut in the next fixture, a trip to St Mary's to take on Southampton.
