Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed $1billion (£855million) in career earnings in 2020 but a difficult first campaign back at Old Trafford has seen the 37-year-old receive an unwelcome pay cut to his annual salary.
The Portuguese international returned to the Red Devils last summer on a two-year deal, and had reportedly signed a £480,000-a-week contract to take his annual earnings up to £25m, helping him to achieve a net worth of $500m (£367m) shortly after.
However, after United failed to secure UEFA Champions League football last season with a dismal sixth-placed finish, all of the club’s players were forced to take a 25% pay cut, leaving Ronaldo ‘upset’ and impacting his future career earnings and current net worth.
What is Ronaldo’s net worth?
Ronaldo’s net worth still stands at around $500m (£367m), making him one of the richest athletes in the world, while his career earnings to date have well exceeded the $1bn (£855m) mark after reaching that milestone back in 2020.
However, his United salary has now been reduced by 25% from £480,000-a-week to £360,000-a-week as of the 2022/23 season, meaning he is no longer the highest earning player in the Premier League, although this is obviously still an enormous amount of money.
But luckily for Ronaldo, he still makes a huge amount of money outside of football. Between May 2021-May 2022, the 37-year-old took home $115m (£98.4m) according to Forbes, while around 40% of his career earnings are through endorsements and sponsorship deals.

Endorsements
Ronaldo is the most followed person on social media platform Instagram with 477 million followers, where up to one post can earn him $1.6m (£1.3m). As a result of his engagement numbers, he has been able to land himself some incredibly lucrative sponsorship deals from a number of companies.
Those include Altice, Herbalife, DAZN, MTG, Clear Shampoo, Abbott and Unilever, while the 37-year-old has already signed a lifetime deal with Nike, worth $1bn (£856m). Ronaldo is also the ambassador for Japanese tech company 'SIXPAD', who are worth £1.8billion (£1.3m), and popular app LiveScore.
These help to bolster his annual earnings by an extra $45m (£38.5m), yet Ronaldo also earns even more money elsewhere through his own investments, of which he has built himself an impressive portfolio.
Assets
Ronaldo has his own fashion brand, CR7, which carries almost everything, but is most notable for selling denim, underwear and fragrances, with the brand said to be worth an eye watering $63m (£53.9m). The 37-year-old has also established his hotel empire, run by Pestana CR7 group, in Funchal, Lisbon and soon-to-be other cities around the world.
In 2019, he continued to expand his business portfolio with the opening of a hair transplant clinic in Marbella, following one that was already set up in Madrid and a further 10 in Portugal - generating an extra £85million a year.
Ronaldo also owns a number of properties around the world, including a $9.7m (£8.3m) seven-story mansion in his native Madeira and the most valuable apartment in Lisbon, which is valued at $7.3 (£6.2m). As well as this, he purchased a $7m (£5.9m) yacht last year, while he owns a luxury car collection worth an astonishing $24m (£20.5m).
