Jurgen Klopp aims Cristiano Ronaldo jibe as Paul Pogba fuels Manchester United ecstasy

Cristiano Ronaldo marked his return to Manchester United in perfect fashion, scoring twice in Saturday's 4-1 win against Newcastle United.

Thrust directly into the starting line-up by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following his deadline-day move from Juventus, Ronaldo was up and running on his second debut before half-time, following in a Mason Greenwood effort to break the deadlock.

The 36-year-old doubled his tally for the afternoon shortly after Javier Manquillo restored parity to the scoreline, racing onto the end of a Luke Shaw pass and through the Newcastle defence to fire home.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard made the scoreline for comfortable for United in the closing stages but all eyes were on Ronaldo as he made his long-awaited 'second debut'.

With that in mind, here is your Monday round-up of what's being said about the Portugal star.

Klopp explains why he is not happy with Ronaldo's United move

Ronaldo has significantly bolstered United's Premier League title prospects, with the forward considered as what was the missing ingredient within Solskjaer's armoury.

For Liverpool chief Klopp, however, Ronaldo's return to United has not let him overly happy, whilst he has admitted that he was 'surprised' he wanted to leave Juventus.

Klopp told Sky Sports: "Am I happy that he is at United? No, I can't say that." Asked if he was "too good a player", the German continued: "Yes, unfortunately.

"I was surprised, not about United, him going in there in the end, but when I first heard the rumours about him wanting to leave Juventus. I had no idea about that.

"I am not in the Juventus circle when people inform me from time to time about what is going on there, so I was surprised about that.

"He was going to City and I thought 'oh, that could be fun for United' and then, obviously, United stepped in and did it. It's all fine. It's a free world and they can do what they want."

Neville says Ronaldo has got Manchester buzzing again

Speaking on his podcast, ex-United defender Gary Neville said: "I took my daughter to play lacrosse in the morning with her school and when we came out, about 12 o'clock, we walked through the Manchester city centre near where we live and I haven't seen the city that alive, as spirited, forget COVID and lockdown, I'm talking for five or ten years.

"What he's [Ronaldo] done for Manchester United and the Premier League as well in terms of the interest and the excitement, but the city of Manchester is absolutely just buzzing with excitement and this was before he scored his two goals.

"I was at Salford watching a 0-0 and it came through that he'd scored the first and then it came through that he scored the second, I could only imagine the atmosphere. I watched it later on and I spoke to a few people that were there and they said it was absolutely out of this world, bouncing like they'd never seen it before.

"It's absolutely wonderful to have him back in the Premier League. It's been a brilliant start to the season and Cristiano Ronaldo coming back puts a cherry on top of an already really good cake."
