Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Man Utd training after breaking silence on transfer rumours

Cristiano Ronaldo is back in training after addressing his uncertain Manchester United future.

The Portuguese superstar has made it clear he wants to quit the club after less than a year with showdown talks being held between his representatives and United officials this week. It comes after Ronaldo missed the pre-season tour of Asia and Australia for "personal reasons".

With a week until the beginning of the season there is still no indication as to whether the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will remain at Old Trafford, at least for another season. However he has posted a picture of himself on social media alongside several of his teammates which include Charlie Savage, Amad and Hannibal Mejbri.

He posed for a snap, which included the caption: "Work in progress..." It comes after Ronaldo himself hit out at social media reports which claimed he was looking for a way out. He said: "Impossible not to talk about me one day. Otherwise, the press makes no money. You know that if you don't lie you can't get people's attention. Keep going that one day you got some news right."

Ronaldo will have to play in the Europa League if he does remain in Manchester, which is seen as one of the major issues. The 37-year-old has revelled on the Champions League stage and is conscious of his battle with Lionel Messi to be the competition's all-time top scorer.

Erik ten Hag has come in and made it clear he wants Ronaldo to be part of his plans whilst the club are adamant he won't be sold. They expect him to see out the remainder of his contract and his departure would leave them short in attack.

Have you say! Should Man Utd cash in on Cristiano Ronaldo? Let us know here.

The bulk of the squad are in Norway having travelled for a friendly against Atletico Madrid on Saturday afternoon, which they lost. Ronaldo has claimed on social media he will be back in action on Sunday, when the team welcome Spanish side Rayo Vallecano.

His representatives have demanded an asking price for Ronaldo, claiming they have a buyer in the pipeline. It remains to be seen who that would be with Sporting Lisbon being rumoured as a potential destination. Chelsea and Bayern Munich were linked originally, but both have distanced themselves from any move.

Ronaldo was United's top scorer last term, bagging 24 in all competitions. He scored a brace on his second debut for the club against Newcastle United and came up with several big goals. However his overall influence and leadership was criticised.
