Cristiano Ronaldo: Manchester United star skips first day of pre-season amid demand to be sold

Cristiano Ronaldo will miss the first day back for Manchester United's pre-season due to "family reasons" as he looks to be sold this summer.

Ronaldo was expected back at the club's Carrington training ground on Monday, along with the rest of the squad, to meet new manager Erik ten Hag for the first time. United have accepted his reason.

Reports emerged on Saturday that the 37-year-old wants to be sold should United receive a suitable offer for him as he wants to win trophies and play in the Champions League.

Ronaldo has played in every Champions League season for the last 19 years but, with United, faces the prospect of Europa League football for the first time.

The forward is also concerned by United's lack of transfer activity this summer, having seen Manchester City sign Erling Haaland, Liverpool sign Darwin Nunez and both Arsenal and Tottenham spend heavily.

United insist Ronaldo is not for sale but the situation remains a huge huge headache for new manager Ten Hag in his first weeks in the job.
