Cristiano Ronaldo asking Bruno Fernandes questions about Man Utd after role in transfer

Cristiano Ronaldo has been regularly asking Bruno Fernandes about the goings on at Man Utd since his compatriots arrival at Old Trafford.

The Juventus forward left United more than a decade ago but still has fond memories of his time there.

Fernandes has denied he sought advice from Ronaldo prior to completing his £67million transfer from Sporting Lisbon in January, but revealed the striker continues to check-in on his progress.

“I spoke with him after, not before," Fernandes told United's official website. "I said before - Manchester, for me, was the dream team.

“It was my dream to play in the Premier League,” he added. “I have the choice to come to Manchester United and it was two dreams in one. It was perfect.

“Of course, I spoke with Cristiano after and he spoke very well about the club. I spoke with him some days ago, again.

“Every time I speak with him, he asks me how Manchester is and if everything is okay. Everyone knows he spent a lot of time in Manchester and he has consideration for the club."

Fernandes has certainly had the desired impact at United following his move, helping the club to a third-placed finish and three semi-finals.

And while Ronaldo may not have discussed a switch to United with Fernandes directly, it seems he still had a hand it helping the deal come to fruition.

Ronaldo's former teammate Patrice Evra claims it was the word of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner which convinced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make a serious move.

"When they wanted to sign Bruno Fernandes, Ole texted me," Evra told The Guardian. "I asked for advice from Cristiano Ronaldo. Cristiano says: ‘Bruno’s a good guy and very professional.’

"I say: ‘Ole, I’ve spoken with Cristiano. Let’s go for it.’ And Fernandes had a massive impact. Without him, I don’t think we would have qualified for the Champions League.”
