‘Crimes by foreigners in Goa nearly 8 times crimes against them’

PANAJI: Statistics issued by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) for 2021 have revealed that crimes committed by foreigners in Goa were nearly eight times the number of crimes committed against them.

The state recorded 11 cases of crimes against foreigners last year, as opposed to 80 cases of offences committed by them. NCRB said that there is decrease in crime both by and against foreigners. The bureau said that a total of 127 cases of crime against foreigners have been reported in all states, and that 1,754 cases foreigners are involved in crime In 2019, 21 cases of crimes against foreigners were reported, as compared to 110 cases of offences committed by them.

In Goa, Russians and Nigerians are mostly involved in narcotics cases. Police said that due to the pandemic, there were negligible foreign arrivals and that’s the reason behind the lower statistics.

The state government recently opened a detention centre at Mapusa.
